Stinger – Utility to Detect and Remove Specific Malwares

McAfee Stinger is a standalone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It’s not a substitute for full antivirus protection, but a specialized tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with infected system.

The tool utilizes next-generation scan technology, including rootkit scanning, and scan performance optimizations. It detects and removes threats identified under the “Threat List” option under Advanced menu options in the application.

Stinger now includes Real Protect, a real-time behavior detection technology that monitors suspicious activity on an endpoint. Real Protect leverages machine learning and automated behavioral based classification in the cloud to detect zero-day malware in real-time.

Latest release include new definitions to cover new variants, optimize performance, and correct incorrect identifications:

New Detections: Generic Trojan.kj

Enhanced Detections: Coinminer.l , Encrypted!data , Generic , Generic Trojan.kd , Generic , Python/PWS.c , Trojan-AutoIT.a , Trojan-PWS.c , Trojan-Ransom.b , Trojan-Trickbot.a

Threat list include 9115 viruses, trojans and variants from Trojan downloaders and Fake AV and more.

By default, Stinger scans for running processes, loaded modules, and registry and directory locations known to be used by malware on a machine to keep scan times minimal. If necessary, click the “Customize my scan” link to add additional drives/directories to your scan.
