Betwixt – Web Debugging Proxy Based on Chrome DevTools

Betwixt is a tool that will help in analyzing web traffic outside the browser using familiar Chrome DevTools interface.This will be useful when the user is looking to make a debugging and intercept the web response and analyze network traffic.

Time of the request processing and size of the captured packets may allow find some useful information especially to analyze the picture and files loaded from the website where they may include malicious content.

In order to capture traffic, you’ll have to direct it to the proxy created by Betwixt in the background (http://localhost:8008).

If you wish to analyze traffic system wide:

  • on macOS – System Preferences → Network → Advanced → Proxies → Web Proxy (HTTP)
  • on Windows – Settings → Network & Internet → Proxy
  • on Ubuntu – All Settings → Network → Network Proxy

To display capture of the encrypted traffic, you’ll have to install root certificate provided with the tool. The certificate is generated for you when you first launch the program.

The tool is flexible as it allow user to copy the response header from the captured network traffic or to copy just the response and save it for further analysis. There is a filtering option to display special files including XHR, JS, CSS, Img, Media, Font, Doc and WS responses.
